Alderson claims victory in Ballindenisk

Daniel Alderson got valuable points on the table in the six-year-old division as the series reaches the half way point

The Horse Sport Ireland (HSI) Eventing Studbook Series is now at the half way point. The third leg of the series took place on Sunday, 16^th of July at Ballindenisk, Watergrasshill, Co Cork.

In the seven-year-old class all bar one combination successfully finished on their dressage score. Finishing one second over the time allowed in the show jumping meant Sarah Ennis and Silken Icon (ISH) added 0.4 penalties to their dressage score, however, this did not impact the overall standings.

Victory went to Suzanne Hagan with her own Loughview Commander (ISH), on a score of 27.5. Close on her heels was Joseph Murphy riding his own My Foxhall Kit (ISH) on 28.2. Completing the top three was Michael Ryan, riding Tom and Carol Henry’s Tullibards Bennys Rainbow (ISH).

In the seven-year-old league Patrick Whelan and Dermish Chill (ISH) hold onto their lead following a second and first place finish in the opening two legs. Sara Glynn and Granny Jean’s Unicorn (ISH) and Hagan with Loughview Commander are tied in second on 15 points each. A sixth place in Ballindenisk for Alyssa O’Neill and her own Danos Lola (ISH) moved this combination into fourth place in the league.

Steven Smith put in yet another good performance in the six-year-old class, but it was Daniel Alderson who won the class. Both Alderson and Smith were tied on a score of 25.8 with Alderson finishing closer to the optimum time cross-country to win with Annestown Royal Blue (ISH). On just her third run at EI110, this is the second victory at this level for the grey mare who is owned and bred by Margaret G Moore.

Smith had to settle for second place with Strangford (ISH) but did add valuable league points. Smith now holds equal first place in the league with two of his rides – Strangford and CJO Kann Surprise (ISH). Not for the first time in this series Smith filled two of the top three placings, coming home in third with Tullaher Paudie (ISH), who now sit in equal fifth in the league.

Alderson moves into third place in the league following his Ballindenisk victory with Annestown Royal Blue. Whelan holds fourth and fifth place with MBF Silver Bridge (ISH) and More Eire (ISH)[TIH] respectively.

Victory in the five-year-old division went to Nicola Ennis, riding her sister Suzanne Ennis’ CBI Joker (WSI), finishing on a score of 26.0, ahead of Georgina Pettit and BCL Belletastic (ISH)[TIH] in second. Third place went to Caitie Slater and JFH Golden Spear (ISH)[TIH]. This podium finish for Slater proved valuable, moving this combination four points clear at the top of the league. Pettit is in second place and Slater fills third with Belline Imperial Diamond (ISH)[TIH].

The next leg of the series will take place at Tattersalls on August 20^th and entries can be made via the Eventing Ireland website.
