ALTHOUGH carrying four faults from the opening round of the Global Champions Tour event at Chantilly, France, today (Saturday), Ireland’s Bertram Allen on Molly Malone V rallied superbly to go clear second time out (pictured), and net fifth place from a field of 44 top international riders.

Only four combinations managed to finish with less than four faults after two rounds, and Allen was by far the most impressive of the remainder, earning a purse of 17,000 for his afternoon’s work.

The result also means that the Wexford rider moves from tenth up to sixth in the overall Tour rankings, with 10 of the 15 rounds completed.

Victory in today’s event was claimed by Belgium’s Gregory Wathelet on Conrad de Hus.
