Co Waterford’s Anthony Condon has added to Ireland’s run of wins at the 2019 London International Horse Show in Olympia, after he came out on top in tonight’s (Thursday) Ivy Stakes 1m55 jump-off class.
Riding the Pat Hales-owned 9-year-old gelding SFS Vincomte, Condon produced the only double clear round of the competition to take the winners prize of almost €7,000. Condon was first to go in the six-horse jump-off and set what proved the winning round which was his first ever win at London Olympia.
“I wasn’t expecting to win the class looking at the list of riders behind me – Marcus Ehning, Scott Brash, Laura Kraut.and Niels Bruynseels,” Condon said. “I just thought I would try and jump a clear round. The horse is still quite green at this level and he jumped a brilliant clear round and luckily that was enough to win.”
Britain’s William Whitaker finished as runner-up with RMF Echo, while Germany’s Marcus Ehning filled third spot with Comme Il Faut.
Offaly’s Darragh Kenny scored Ireland’s first win of Olympia 2019 on Wednesday afternoon while later that night. Kildare’s Mikey Pender shared victory in the Olympia Puissance.
