Approved stallion Valent (KWPN) upgraded to 5* Status in the Irish Sport Horse Studbook

Horse Sport Ireland, on behalf of the Irish Sport Horse Studbook, is delighted to announce the new upgraded 5* Star Rating of the Approved 2002 KWPN stallion Valent.

Owned by the Rosbotham family in Keonan Stables, Co. Armagh, Valent (KWPN) was ridden in international competition by both Lisa Rosbotham, and the 2002 individual Gold Medallist at the World Equestrian Games in Jerez de la Frontera, Spain, Dermot Lennon.
With Lennon in the saddle, Valent competed at 1.50m level at the CSIO5* shows in Dublin (IRL), Aachen (GER), Falsterbo (SWE) and Gijon (ESP).
He was a member of the Irish Nations Cup team with Lisa Rosbotham at the 2011 Nations Cup in Drammen (NOR).

Available from Co. Kildare’s Hartwell Stud with Mary McCann, this son of Hors La Loi (SF) descends from the same damline as;
Wirma (KWPN) who competed at 1.60m level with Brianne Goutal-Marteau for the USA;
Dexter (KWPN) who competed internationally at 1.50m level with Lauren Hough for the USA, and Britain’s Charlie Jones, and;
Barnike (KWPN), who won the 7-Year-Old Championship with Ireland’s Betram Allen at the 2014 World Showjumping Championships for Young Horses in Lanaken, Belgium in 2014.

Valent (KWPN) has been awarded a 5* EV PP merit for the performances internationally of his Eventing progeny including Cooley Rosalent (ISH) with Britain’s Oliver Townend and Jewelent (ISH) with Ireland’s Clare Abbott.

5* Status Requirements

To achieve 5* status for Eventing progeny, a stallion must have two or more progeny that earn Minimum Eligibility Requirements (MERs) at CCI4*-L or CCI5*-L level.
An MER is achieved when a horse and rider combination has no more than 45 penalty points in the dressage test (minimum of 55% dressage good marks), no more than 16 show jumping penalties and is clear jumping cross country.

The first of the counting progeny for Valent (KWPN) was Jewelent (ISH). This 2012 gelding is out of the thoroughbred mare Bellaney Jewel (IRE), by Roselier (FR) (TB), and bred by Woods Rosbotham. He achieved his MERs when finishing 8th with Clare Abbott in the CCI4*-L in Ballindenisk in 2020, and for his 14th place individual finish in the FEI European Eventing Championships in Avenches, Switzerland in 2021.

The second of the counting progeny for Valent (KWPN), Cooley Rosalent (ISH), is a 2014 mare also bred by Woods Rosbotham out of Bellaney Jewel (IRE) (TB), making her a full sister to Jewelent.
She achieved her MERs when finishing 2nd with Oliver Townend in the CCI4*-L in Blair Castle 2022, and for her 3rd place finish in the 2023 CCI5*-L in Maryland, USA.
