Clare Abbott claims victory in the Horse Sport Ireland EI110 Series

HSI EI110 Final – Punchestown
The Horse Sport Ireland EI110 Eventing Series drew to a close this weekend with the final taking place on Saturday 10th October in Punchestown, Co. Kildare. In the final, Patrick Whelan with Rehy Royal Occasion (ISH), owned by Henry Phipps, took the spoils finishing on their dressage score as one of only 3 double clears in the class. Second place went to Sarah Ennis and her own Action Lady M (ISH). Jonathan Steele & Rockfall (ISH) took third place after adding a pole down in the showjumping and 0.4 time faults from the cross country phase. The top 6 results are listed below:

Overall Series Results
The winner of the six-part HSI EI110 Series was Clare Abbott riding Malcolm X, an Irish Sport Horse gelding owned by Douglas Sloan and bred by Judith McClelland.
Abbott partnered Malcolm X to victory in the first leg of the series in Loughnamore on the 5th of September. Keeping up their good run of form, Abbott & Malcolm X gained all important points by placing 2nd in the third leg of the series in Knockany on the 19th of September and placed 6th in the final in Punchestown last weekend. This was more than enough to secure the series on a total of 27 points and a six-point lead over second place.
Hot on their heels in second place was Jonathan Steele & Zermatt. Steele & the Caroline Keatley bred and owned, Zermatt, achieved their series points after winning in Knockany and placing 4th in Loughnamore at the start of the series, gaining 21 points in the series.
Joint third in the series on a total of 16 points went to Steven Smith and the Ann Bowe owned Hi Mr Henry (ISH), bred by John O’Sullivan, and Paul Donovan with his own Enniscrone Rollar Boy, bred by Siobhan McGuinness.

The Horse Sport Ireland EI 110 series is a new initiative to Horse Sport Ireland in 2020. The series was open to athletes who are members of Eventing Ireland and horses registered with a passport authority and with Eventing Ireland. Horse Sport Ireland were delighted to sponsor the series with a total prize fund of €10,000.
