The Irish Show Jumping team of Daniel Coyle, Jonathan Corrigan, Jordan Coyle and Cormac Hanley, have finished as runners-up in tonight’s (Sunday) five-star Longines FEI Nations Cup at Langley in Canada. Michael Blake’s team finished on a two round total of 8 faults. Victory went to the home team from Canada on 4 faults. A third place finish for USA on 12 faults saw them take one of the North American league places on offer for the 2019 FEI Nations Cup final in Barcelona, while Mexico, who finished fourth in tonight’s competition, are also bound for Barcelona.

Derry’s Daniel Coyle and the Ariel Grange-owned Farrell had one fence down in the first round and jumped clear second time out. Meath’s Jonathan Corrigan and The Irish Sport Horse Loughnavatta Indigo (ISH), owned by Horse Orchard LLC, had just a foot in the water in the first round and produced a magnificent clear at their second attempt. Derry’s Jordan Coyle with Eristov, owned by Elan Farm, were the discard score in the first round but recovered brilliantly to just post one time fault second time out. The stand-out performance for Ireland came from Cormac Hanley. The 22-year-old from Co Mayo partnered the Heathman Farm-owned VDL Cartello to a brilliant double clear round as Ireland’s anchor rider.

The Canadian Nations Cup was not a points scoring outing for Ireland. The next opportunity for Ireland to score Nations Cup points will come at Sopot in Poland on Sunday June 16th.
