It was a thrilling finish to a sensational weekend of Show Jumping in the heart of Sweden as Ireland’s Bertram Allen closed the Longines Global Champions Tour of Stockholm with a win on The Irish Sport Horse Pacino Amiro in a lightning-fast 1.55m jump-off class presented by Agria.

Once again the Swedish Olympic Stadium was filled to the rafters as Allen defeated Germany’s Daniel Deusser on Jasmien vd Bisschop to take the win by just 0.04 of a second. In front of passionate crowds, home hero Peder Fredricson finished the podium off to take third on Catch Me Not S.

Wexford-born Allen told GCTV:

“All the riders have been talking about it all week, how the atmosphere here is literally one of the best shows all year for that. I was very motivated for today and I wanted to make the most of it.”

Allen then added: “It was definitely a thrilling jump-off, it was fast and with Daniel and Peder both having good rounds I knew I had to take a lot of risks. My horse jumped fantastic today so it was nice to come out on top.”

Across the Atlantic, Co Down’s Conor Swail continued his incredible run of form with a runner-up finish in the five-star Grand Prix at Spruce Meadows in Canada riding Count Me In.

Meanwhile at Hagen Future Champions Show in Germany, Kilkenny’s Seamus Hughes Kennedy and the Clare Hughes-owned Cuffesgrange Cavadora (ISH) took an excellent victory in the U21 (Young Rider) Grand Prix. The competition saw just four first round clears, with Seamus Hughes Kennedy the fastest of just two clears against the clock. Seamus Hughes Kennedy and Cuffesgrange Cavadora (ISH) were winners of the Gold Medal in the 7-year-old World Championship final at Lanaken in 2019.

On Saturday in Hagen, Gary Marshal’s Irish Pony team claimed victory in the Pony Nations Cup. The Irish team of Eoin Brennan (Glor Tire Cruise), James Brennan (MHS Glow), Katie McEntee (Carrickaduff Pet) and Paddy Reape (Valma de Fougnard) finished on a two round total of just four faults – eight faults clear of the next best team.
Ireland won the opportunity to Adopt A Project with JustWorld! with a Charity donation of $2,000.
