High Performance Junior Eventing Team Manager Debbie Byrne said:
“I am delighted to announce the squad for the 2014 European Championships at Bishop Burton. We have great depth of championship experience with riders coming through from pony level and past Junior European squads.
“The decision is always a difficult one as I have watched these young athletes take part on the junior programme throughout the year and in competition. To bring it down and select a squad of 6 with reserves, will always leave some disappointed but the selection process is a fair one, and has been proven to be successful in the past.
“I must thank all the junior riders and their support teams of parent’s, owners and trainers and their commitment given in time and money throughout the year. Also our team trainers and vet who come with so much enthusiasm and a wealth of knowledge.
“The facilities we have now at the National Sports Campus in Abbotstown are outstanding, and it has allowed me to prepare my junior athletes, with the commitment from Horse Sport Ireland the Irish Sports Council and Eventing Ireland.
“We are really looking forward to this year’s championships, and we strive to make them a successful one for Team Ireland.”
