- 7 June 2017, 10:00
Horse Sport Ireland is pleased to announce the details of the 2017 HSI Foal Championship. The Championship has a very generous prize fund of almost €30,000 and aims to identify, evaluate and reward breeders who have bred a foal that has the potential to be competitive at the highest international level in the disciplines of showjumping or eventing.
This year there will be 6 regional qualifiers held in August with separate sections for potential showjumping foals and potential eventing foals. Foals will be permitted to enter one regional qualifier but will not be confined to entering the qualifier in their own region. €3,000 in prize money will be on offer at each of the qualifiers where 4 foals will be selected for the Final; the best show jumping type colt and filly, and the best eventing type colt and filly.
The final will take place at the end of September or early October where a pot of €10,000 will be on offer and two Champions will be named, Champion Showjumping Foal and Champion Eventing Foal. There will also be a special prize for the best overall TIH foal.
Commenting on the 2017 Foal Championship, Alison Corbally, HSI Director of Breeding and Programmes, “The HSI Foal Championship has been very successful in supporting breeders who endeavour to produce top class performance and breeding stock. This year will be the third year of the Championship and we will be inviting past winners to parade at the Final later in the year. I would like to encourage anyone who is considering entering their foal in the 2017 Championship to register their foal as soon as possible to ensure that they are eligible to compete”.
HSI are now seeking applications from existing shows and venues interested in hosting a regional qualifier and/or final. The closing date for applications is Monday 12th June 2017. For further information on this application process please download the following documents:
