Ian (pictured) will join Horse Sport Ireland from Mediahuis, where he has been working as Acting Editor for The Herald newspaper. He has reported across the board on all things sport, and worked extensively in equine-related news as part the Irish Daily Star’s sports desk before taking on more editorial responsibility after a switch to The Herald. There he predominantly focused on news and current affairs, while continuing to write sport features for the Mediahuis group.

His experience includes the duty of horse racing coordinator with the Irish Daily Star, ghost writing for several of Ireland’s leading jockeys, feature pieces and in-depth interviews with some of Ireland’s best-known horse racing personalities. He also contributes to the annual Irish Racing Yearbook, with his pieces featuring in the Irish Examiner.

Having worked for 15 years in news and sport media, Ian will be a welcome addition to the Marketing and Communications team in Horse Sport Ireland.

Speaking about his new position, Ian said:

“I’m really looking forward to joining all the team in Horse Sport Ireland. I am absolutely delighted to have this opportunity to bring my skills forward to my new role and use them to help showcase the Irish Sport Horse industry both at home and on a global scale.

It promises to be an action-packed year for the sector, and I look forward to the challenge of discovering and learning all about this sport. Chief Executive Denis Duggan and Acting Marketing Manager Alyssa O’Neill have shown great trust in me and I can’t wait to get stuck in and start making an impact.”

Acting Marketing Manager Alyssa O’Neill commented:

“On behalf of Horse Sport Ireland, I am very pleased to welcome Ian to the team as the new Marketing and Communications Executive. I look forward to working alongside Ian in HSI as we market and promote the Irish equine industry and I have no doubt that Ian’s knowledge and expertise will help us to deliver our plans and achieve our future goals.”
