Important notice for Irish/foreign HGV road users in the UK

  • 26 June 2020, 16:36

It has been announced today (Friday June 26th) that the UK HGV Road User Levy is to be suspended for one year from 1st August 2020 to 31st July 2021. This means that during the suspension period you do not need to purchase a Levy when you come into the UK.

The UK Government understands the difficulties that the industry has faced during the Covid-19 pandemic and hopes to ease some of that burden by providing a 12 month suspension of the HGV Levy.

During this 12 month suspension, the Government will take the opportunity to review the HGV Levy to ensure that it continues to meet the Government’s current and future objectives.

Throughout the period of the suspension, the HGV Levy public website will still be available and although you will not be able to purchase a Levy you will be able to review and update your registered account details as normal.

If you have already purchased a 12 month or 6 month levy and there are whole months remaining, during the suspension period you will be able to apply for a rebate using the standard processes.

If you have already made a prepayment on your account, our team will be contacting you after August 1st 2020 to organise a rebate on the prepayment.

Please note that from now until 31st July you will still need to buy a Levy and DVSA enforcement will be continuing, so please ensure you have a valid Levy when entering the UK up until 31st July 2020.

If you have any questions please contact by email FOPSContactCentre@digital.dvla.gov.uk or phone +44 33 0101 3725.
