The FEI WBFSH Jumping World Breeding Championship for Young Horses are taking place this weekend at Lanaken in Belgium, with Ireland represented by over 70 combinations in total.

Of those combinations, 19 make up the team selected to represent Irish WBFSH Studbooks on behalf of Horse Sport Ireland, while the remainder consist of Irish riders competing foreign-bred horses and Irish riders competing Irish Sport Horses, both under the wildcard system, as invitees of the show, and as overseas riders competing on Irish Sport Horses.

Sunday’s 5-year-old final will include a total of eight Irish riders and four Irish Sport Horses. The 6-year-old final will have six Irish riders and three Irish Sport Horses, while the 7-year-old final will include five Irish riders and one Irish Sport Horse.

Speaking on the first two days of competition, Ireland’s Show Jumping Team Manager for the Championships in Lanaken, Jack Doyle commented:

“It is a hugely competitive field and overall we have had some good results considering how high the standard is here. We have had some unlucky results over the two days, but the courses are big, the tracks are technical and the times are tight – our riders are dealing with them very well.”
