Lynch gains further valuable ranking points in Olympic bid
- 29 January 2016, 23:13
Denis Lynch and Allstar finished 2nd in tonight’s 5 star Longines International Grand Prix at Zurich to boost the chances of Ireland securing two individual Olympic Show Jumping slots for Rio next August.
Individual places are allocated based on the Olympic ranking list up to March 6th. Tonight’s result gives Lynch and Allstar a further boost in the rankings to add to points they secured recently by finishing 2nd in the World Cup Class in Leipzig.
There is one Olympic place reserved for Ireland’s Olympic Geographical Group. Bertram Allen is likely to finish top of this group but another Irish combination needs to finish in the top four in the Global ranking list in order to secure a 2nd place for Ireland.
Lynch and Allstar were in 8th place on the global list when it was last published at the end of December. However, with tonight’s result and the recent placing in Leipzig, Lynch and Allstar are likely to improve their position when the updated list is published at the end of this month.
While Olympic places are allocated based on individual rankings the places are allocated to the country of the successful rider rather than to the rider themselves.
