Irish horses and riders dominate the top-ten in 7-year-old consolation final in Lanaken

Irish Sport Horses and Irish riders excelled in the 7-year-old consolation final of the FEI/WBFSH World Breeding Jumping Championships for Young Horses, which took place today in Zangersheide, Belgium. Second place went to Ireland’s Jessica Burke, who competed on the British-bred Billy Utah, owned by Louisa Church and bred by Donal Barnwall. Fourth place went to Ireland’s Max O’Reilly Hyland with the Irish Sport Horse BP Limitless, bred by Austin Broderick and owned by Max himself.

Seventh place then went to Ireland’s Paddy O’Donnell with WEC Mermus Rua (ISH), who were selected to represent the Irish Sport Horse Studbook. WEC Mermus Rua is owned by Patrick Peare and bred by Ray Brown. Derek McConnell who also competed for Ireland and as a representative of the Studbook, finished in 8th place with Inlaws Manolo (ISH), who is owned by Sorcha Hennessy and bred by Tomas Hester. Finally, 10th place went to Ireland’s Diarmuid Howley, who competed on the German-bred Forino (HOLST), bred and owned by Manfred Von Allwörden. Keifer Dawson Stanley also finished inside the top 20 with Jumping Jack van de Kalevallei (SBS), a Dutch-bred stallion bred and owned by Geert de Sloover, and co-owned by Joeri Stevens.

Commenting on Ireland’s success in the 7-year-old consolation final, team manager Jack Doyle said:

“We’ve had some great results today in the 7-year-old final, and I’m pleased for all the riders here and how they’ve tackled the very testing courses. I’m greatly looking forward to tomorrow, and hopefully winning some medals.”

Ireland also had success in the 5-year-old consolation final, with a great 6th place finish for World Championship debutante Leah Stack and the Irish Sport Horse mare Laurina representing the Irish Sport Horse Studbook, who finished in 6th place. Laurina (ISH) is bred and owned by Dr Noel Cawley. Also in the five-year-old final, Max O’Reilly Hyland finished just outside the top 20 with Irish Sport Horse Rock Warrior, bred and owned by Barbara O’Reilly Hyland.

In the 6-year-old consolation final, Abbie Sweetnam with German-bred Dora The Explorer (WESTF) finished highest of the Irish, inside the top 25. Dora The Explorer was bred by Franz Schulze Schiethoff and is owned by Jeremy Sweetnam.
