Ahead of second day of the WBFSH Jumping Global Champions Trophy kicking off in the Longines Tops International Arena in Valkenswaard, the Horse Sport Ireland (HSI) Young Horse Jumping Squad representing the Irish Sport Horse Studbook are looking to continue their good form from Day 1.

In the Five-Year-Old division, the Irish team are sitting on just a single time fault following clears from Richard Kerins with Realteens Orestus (ISH), Stephen Gibbons with Ceide Candy Heart (ISH) and Kian Dore with Cape Tribulation (ISH). Paddy O’Donnell with Kilfarissey To Rome (ISH) brought home a single time fault. Annie Courtney-Cadam and LCC Dunard Lady Dominator (ISH) had a single pole down to leave the Irish team leading the way going into the second qualifier.

In the Six-Year-Old division, clear rounds from Oisin Aylward with the Preliminary Approved stallion in the Irish Sport Horse Studbook, ESI Indigo (ISH) and Paddy O’Donnell with Castleconnell Candy Man (ISH). With four faults coming from Richard Kerins with RSK Quality Cruise (ISH), Johnathan Mulligan with Kathleens Candy Clover (ISH) and Robert Splaine with Coolcorran Lone Ranger (ISH), the Irish Sport Horse Studbook is left in a four way tie for second place with the Westphalian, Hannoverian and Zangersheide studbooks. The Anglo European Studbook and Selle Francais lead the way on a zero score.

In the Eight-Year-Old age category, the first and second placings of Comdt. Geoff Curran with DHF Alliance (ISH) and Jonathan Gordon with CBI Karhari (ISH) along with the four fault counting scores of Paddy O’Donnell with WEC Mermus Rua (ISH) and Joanne Blair with Tranquility Bay (ISH) leave the Irish Sport Horse Studbook tied for second with the Selle Francais studbook behind the KWPN who lead on zero.

After a successful first day Chef d’Equipe Taylor Vard said: “It was a good first day. My wishes came through with five-year-olds. Those three clear rounds from Stephen Gibbons, Richard Kerins and Kian Dore were a great way to finish the first qualifier.

“The six-year-olds put up a good performance also with two double clears from Oisin Aylward and Paddy O’Donnell. We’re in joint second and well positioned going into the second qualifier. It’s a great start to this championship.

“Tomorrow is another very important day with it being the second qualifier for the eight-year-olds and the five-year-olds, and the first seven-year-old qualifier. The combined scores from the two qualifiers determine our seeding for the finals, where the scores are wiped clear and we all start on zero again. It’s still all to play for.”
