Irish combination Sorrell Klatzko and Turbo have been withdrawn on veterinary advice from the 2023 FEI Dressage European Championship in Riesenbeck.

The 10-year-old, who had been enjoying an excellent season to date in preparation for the championship, picked up a minor injury at Riesenbeck. This morning, the decision to withdraw has been made with the horse’s welfare at the forefront of the decision.

Horse Sport Ireland Dressage High Performance Director, Anne Marie Dunphy, said: “Unfortunately Turbo picked up a minor injury at the show and as a result, in consultation with our team vet, we have made the difficult decision to withdraw him.

“He is recovering well and will be given all the time he needs to to be fully fit.”

Ireland will be represented at the championship by remaining three combinations; Abigail Lyle with Farrell, Anna Merveldt with Esporim and Judy Reynolds with Rockman Royal NG.

Lyle and her mount, Farrell, who have been in sparkling form of late, are first into the arena in the Grand Prix this morning, with Merveldt and Reynolds competing tomorrow.
